Intelli-Hood typical system configuration
|
|
|
|
Intelli-Hood primarily controls the extract system to operate at the minimum level necessary, by monitoring the conditions in the zone and appropriately varying the speed of the extract fan.

Temperature Sensor
Exhaust air temperature is continuously monitored by sensors connected to the processor that varies the output of the drives controlling the extract fans-
Low output: when there is little or no cooking.
Increased output: when cooking activity increases, the heat sensors quickly detect this and the extract fan speed is increased to the appropriate level. |

Air Purge Units
The Air Purge Units provide positive air pressure to the emitter and receiver housings and thereby significantly reduce the quantity of grease collecting on the lenses. Small fans are mounted above the extract canopies and connected to the emitter and receiver housings by pipe. |

Variable Speed Drives
Extract fan speeds are controlled by Variable Frequency Drives (Inverters). The drives are housed in electronically conductive enclosures, fitted with appropriate filters and installed to ensure compliance with EMC regulations. |

System Processor
The processor monitors the inputs from the temperature and optics sensors communicating information to the variable speed drives controlling the extract fans. An I/O board serves a dual purpose: It primarily provides a 24Vdc power supply to the circuit board and air purge units and a 12Vdc supply to the optic sensors. It also provides a connection point for some of the inputs and outputs for the Autocal circuit board. |

Keypad
Use the keypad to programme the system, find any faults or view the extract fan speeds for the programmed hoods.
"100%" Button - instant maximum fan speed for predetermined time, overriding the sensors.
Bar Graph - continuously displays the extract fan speeds on each hood being controlled and identifies a particular fault in the system.
Clean Light - flashes green/red if the optic sensors are faulty.
"SET UP" Button - scroll through the hood numbers and the programmable set-up options on the bar graph. |

Optic Sensors
These consist of an infrared light beam emitter and receiver covering the length of the extract canopy. The receiver contains a photo detector which produces a variable low voltage signal depending on the amount of infrared light received. With the presence of smoke or steam, the light received will reduce and on detecting this the processor will signal the drive to ramp the fan motor to maximum speed. |
